A Break Down
BREAK DOWN
First impressions of one, Miss Devon Ava Winters: quiet, dreamy eyed, and has her head in the clouds. Born December 1st, a 5"5 brunette young woman of 27 years.
More accurately: Sharp tongued, audacious, a bit of an obsessive when it comes to miscellaneous subjects and artistic endeavors although she would hardly call herself a fine artist. She grows restless from inactivity and is always finding ways to keep herself busy. Devon is rather frank, but in a warmhearted way. Her outward behaviors appear demure and quiet at first, but the joker is strong when communicating through devices and social media. And once someone spends enough time around her to gain her trust and comfort, she talks quite easily. Her kindness is genuine and it’s shown through her willingness to repair things people would usually throw away. Devon has frequent bursts of energy that she pours into her passion projects, mostly of for the fine arts, but she's known to do vigorous research on random topics of her choosing.
At times, Devon isn't aware of her own needs and may require a nudge in the right direction to realize what she lacks.
She does her best to take things in stride due to the abnormalities that occur around her even though she admits even she stumbles in that department.
ABILITIES
- Healing/Reversal; Devon can heal wounds and scars and reverse physical defects of plants and objects.
- Prolonging Life; she can prolong the life of a dying creature or human if need be. This, she doesn't do often.
HEARTFUL
Devon lives a middle class life with her family consisting of her parents and a very young brother and by all accounts, is normal. She lives in Portland, Oregon. She works as a teacher’s assistant, hoping to one day be an educator herself. On her mother’s side, however, is her eccentric and wealthy grandfather, Lucas Jayden Flemming, a man who has invested wisely in technologies and is involved in the film industry, and an enthusiast in the niche and unusual, much like Devon whom he is particularly fond of out of all his grandchildren for some unknown reason. And unbeknownst to her, Lucas Flemming is the reason she is alive in the first place.
During his travels for a film, a nature documentary, Lucas had encountered an injured crow (an unusually large one, with a beautiful plumage, simultaneously opaline and silvery). Taking pity on it, he took the bird in, attempting to put it on the road to recovery at a local vet. Unfortunately, it passed away, three days later. Within its body, there laid an unusual organ; it’s heart, more like a gemstone, still pulsating, still alive. Completely enamored and fascinated with the object, Lucas took it for his own, and later discovered after paying some researchers to breakdown its properties, that it seemed to have the ability to prolong the life of organisms it was attached to, fix broken and unusable objects, revive dead plants, and it attracted animals, mostly birds, towards it. Overall, it was a heart that seemed to reverse physical defects in a more accurate sense.
A while later, a plea came to Lucas, in the form of his estranged youngest daughter, whom he had strained relations with because she had married to someone who was of a lower class. Her child, a mere infant of several months had fallen ill and she needed his help. Setting all ills aside, Lucas flew over as quickly as he could to support his daughter and her child, bringing along with him, the heart. The babe was on the brink of death by the time Lucas arrived. While no one was looking, Lucas took the heart and gave it to baby Devon, crushing it into a fine powder and administering the solution into her mouth.
Devon made a miraculous recovery and from that point on, she had a comfortable childhood surrounded by a warm family and friends, unaware of what was done to her. Whenever her grandfather visited, he was always joyful when he saw her, showering her with praise during with family gatherings, much to the other relatives’ discomfort (they kept trying to curry favor with the wealthy patriarch while she seemed to gain it effortlessly). Strange occurrences begin to plague Devon, however. Her parents began to notice she had gained a habit of sleepwalking. At first it wasn’t alarming. The episodes were infrequent enough to not be a cause of concern until she left home for college. There, her roommates, fearfully noted that Devon started to sleepwalk further and further away from the premises and even during daylight hours, she seemed to go into a trance and walk towards an unknown destination until someone was able to awaken her. What was even more frightening was that there were always crows that stalked her at night, watching Devon with beady eyes.
She had to continue her education from home, where she had people to watch over her. All of this was very troubling to Devon, who felt, that if she didn’t have this problem, life wouldn’t be as daunting or uncertain. It had distanced her from her friends and so she had a solitary existence, mostly finding solace in social media (although she never talked about her sleepwalking online). Comfort was also found in her grandfather who she emails frequently and confides in him about her sleepwalking episodes, her various art projects and the crows that always seemed to follow her around, how she manages to fix devices and broken objects easily, how her mother’s plants are doing better now that she’s back home...
